Singing The Praises of Fresh & Easy

Have you tried shopping at Fresh & Easy lately? I go somewhat infrequently as it is a little out of the way from my home, but made a special trip today because being part of their email club, they had sent me a $10 off $50 purchase coupon. That's a savings of 20% right there! I found the produce to be excellently priced, and my husband found a favorite beverage at a very favorable price. Large pumpkins, perfect for the fall holidays were only $2.50 each and Halloween candy was 50% off. I was very happy with my findings, and even happier with the hefty savings. Another great thing about the store is that for every $20 you spend with them, $1 goes back to local schools! That is a fantastic program right there. For more information on Fresh & Easy, the school program, or to join their email list, go to http://www.freshandeasy.com/.

CVS ExtraCare Card

If you shop at CVS and have an ExtraCare card, are you remembering to scan it at the kiosk when you enter the store? I have to admit that I was an infrequent shopper, and when I did go to the store, I would give them my card at checkout, but would forget to scan it when I ENTERED the store. BIG mistake! Now that I have discovered all the deals available there and I am shopping more frequently, I am also remembering to scan in. Yesterday I took my "Save $5 off $30 purchase" that they emailed me for being a part of their email club, and when I scanned my card at the kiosk, they gave me (amongst others) a $5 off any Halloween items purchase. That did NOT come with spending requirement- so in other words, I got to pick out pumpkins and Halloween items to the tune of $5 with no cost to me! That was a really nice surprise! www.cvs.com.

Personal Computers- When to Leave on, When to Turn Off

Do you leave your computer running all day because you don't know whether the surge it takes to repower it wastes more energy than just leaving it on? Up til now I have been a person that leaves my computer up and running all day, putting it into hibernation only at the end of the day. But according to http://www.energysavers.gov/, though there is a small surge of energy used to power the computer up, it is less than the energy used to power your computer for long periods of time. This site suggests that you turn off your monitor if you aren't going to use your PC for more than 20 minutes. Turn off both the CPU and monitor if you're not going to use your PC for more than 2 hours. And lastly, make sure you plug your PC and other equipment into a power strip/surge protector that can be turned off altogether if you are away for extended periods. Your equipment, even if in the "off" mode can still draw power. Turning off the the power button on the power strip will shut down this energy phantom.

Gem of a Park in Solana Beach

This coastal park was redesigned last year and is a real gem. Fletcher Cove Park can be found at 111 S. Sierra Ave. It has an oceanic theme with elements that celebrate features of the city. You can find a small basketball court, benches that overlook the ocean, showers, restrooms, a playground, picnic tables and more. http://www.sandiegocoastlife.com/attractions/san-diego-coast/parks-fletcher-cove-park.html
